An exciting new event is set to transform the beautifully redeveloped central city into a vibrant and buzzing bazaar.
This new event is the next evolution of the popular Thieves Alley Market, which took place in The Octagon and surrounding streets. The George Street Market will be held instead, utilising the fabulous, redeveloped George Street area for Dunedin’s new premier street market event. Part of the street will become pedestrian-only, so attendees can shop and peruse the stalls and stores throughout the day at their leisure.
Retailers, stallholders, eateries, food trucks, artisans and performers will come together for the inaugural George Street Market on 8 February 2025.

Street Performers
The inaugural George Street Market is thrilled to host world-class street performers fresh from their acclaimed performances at the Auckland Buskers Festival. This collaboration brings an extraordinary calibre of entertainment to Dunedin, showcasing diverse acts that promise to captivate and inspire audiences.

Richard Arhinful, an energetic performer from Ghana based in Taiwan, brings over 15 years of experience to the stage with his captivating blend of traditional African acrobatic dance, contortion, and object manipulation. His dynamic act celebrates creativity and cultural heritage, featuring impressive juggling and balancing with traditional African dishpans. This visually engaging and inspiring performance appeals to audiences of all ages, leaving a lasting impression.

Passionate about magic, clowning, and physical theatre, Stefano Dalessandro honed his skills not only through study but also through the vibrant energy of street performance.
Street performance is a way of life for Stefano, it’s a way of seeing the world through different eyes.
Stefano brings the art of magic to the streets and uses it as a means of expressing himself through his show Voila ‘magic without tricks’ – magic is the means, entertainment is the form, and improvisation is the dialogue.
A specific street performance which emphasises what makes these shows unique: The public. A collective performance, a way to feel like children again and to let go…

Andy Spigola, Italy
Andrea Mineo, aka Andy Spigola, is a clown and street performer from Italy. His diverse journey spans global workshops, children’s theatre and Japanese Butoh.
Andy Spigola, anxious playboy, lover of magic, dance and heights with improbable feats bordering on idiocy and courage, will take you into an absurd world where there is only one password: BOATO!
A show that unites nouveau clown, visual comedy and personal research on the use of stilts and height as a challenge.

Experience the thrill and excitement of this high-energy and explosive performance that will leave you breathless. Many have compared the Fire Ninja to a new age “Mortal Combat” character, and it’s easy to see why. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be amazed by the world-class skills on display, from the stunning fireball-shooting ability to the jaw-dropping fire-eating feats, all ending in a massive mushroom cloud explosion that will leave you speechless.
